Westport, October 3, 2025 – After 29 years of service to the community, the Friends of Foley Mountain (FOFM) has completed its charitable journey with one final act of generosity: a sizable donation to the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation (RVCF). This final gift will ensure that important work continues at Foley Mountain, leaving a lasting mark on the community.
“While it is bittersweet to close the chapter on the FOFM, we are proud that our last contribution will support Foley Mountain,” said Rob Struthers, Chair of the FOFM. “The partnership with the Conservation Foundation ensures that the spirit of our work lives on in a meaningful and enduring way.”
The donation of $45,935 will support future improvements to Foley Mountain’s iconic Spy Rock lookout, a project closely aligned with the vision and values of FOFM. By transferring its final resources, FOFM is helping to advance safe, accessible access to the breathtaking view of Upper Rideau Lake and the scenic Village of Westport while also enhancing a community asset that supports local tourism and economic vitality.
RVCF expressed gratitude for the gift and the opportunity to build on the legacy of its partner. “We are honoured to carry this torch forward,” said Diane Downey, RVCF Executive Director. “This generous donation will be a catalyst for future fundraising initiatives at Foley Mountain’s Spy Rock lookout, helping us ensure safer pathways, enhanced accessibility and upgraded viewing areas.”
In addition, the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation (RVCF) will continue to build on FOFM’s work by raising funds for education and transportation subsidies, ensuring local children can participate in hands-on experiential outdoor learning at Foley Mountain through school field trips and Forest School programs. To date, RVCF has already secured more than $25,000 to support these education initiatives for the 2025–2026 school year, thanks to private donations and support from the United Way Leeds & Grenville.

Although FOFM has concluded its operations, its legacy will continue through the work of the RVCF. Donors and community members can learn more at www.rvcf.ca.
