Explore the watershed through RVCA’s new Outdoor Adventure Challenge

Whether you’re a trail warrior, beach bum or something in between, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority’s new Outdoor Adventure Challenge aims to expand your horizons as you explore its 11 public conservation areas this year.

The challenge is part of the RVCA’s 60th anniversary celebrations taking place throughout 2026. It's designed to be achievable: no trail logs or kilometre counting required, just a commitment to get out and explore when the mood strikes.

“Getting outside is good for our minds and bodies, and helps us connect to the natural treasures that make the Rideau Valley such a wonderful place to live,” said RVCA general manager Sommer Casgrain-Robertson. “We hope everyone will take part as much as they can to reconnect with the watershed during our 60th year.”

Visitors can tag RVCA in their photos using #RVCAdventure, and can reward their efforts with a free set of water bottle stickers available at www.rvca.ca/adventure

These unique stickers will also be available at a series of free Outdoor Adventure events held at RVCA properties throughout the year. Guided hikes, outdoor yoga, free beach days and a community day at the RVCA's head office are all on the schedule for 2026.

RVCA kicked off the series on Saturday, February 28 with a guided snowshoe hike at Perth Wildlife Reserve. Under spring-like skies, staff led an enthusiastic group around the Betty Wilson Nature Trail, spotting a porcupine along the way as well as evidence of pileated woodpeckers and other wildlife.

The next guided event will take place at Foley Mountain on Saturday, May 23.

Adventure Starts Here!

There’s something for everyone at RVCA’s conservation areas. Some sites are a hiker’s paradise, such as Foley Mountain, Mill Pond and Meisel Woods. Others, like Baxter and Chapman in the City of Ottawa, are perfect for more accessible and family-friendly strolls.

Rideau Ferry Yacht Club, Baxter and Foley Mountain conservation areas each offer public beaches, while Rideau Ferry, Mill Pond and W.A. Taylor offer motorboat launches for anglers and boaters looking to get out on the water.

Portland Bay, Richmond and W.A. Taylor are perfect picnic spots, while naturalists will love birdwatching and exploring at Motts Mills and Perth Wildlife Reserve.
