PERTH, September 3, 2026 — The Town of Perth and Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) are inviting volunteers to help plant 150 native trees at Darou Farms as part of a TD Tree Days event this fall.
The 50-acre former agricultural property was transformed into community greenspace in 2020, with walking trails and, more recently, an off-leash dog park. The new trees will add shade, habitat and natural beauty along the watercourse that runs through the property.
“We're excited to expand the work RVCA and the Town have already started at this beautiful community green space,” said Meaghan McDonald, RVCA Lake Planning - Shoreline Stewardship Coordinator. "Bringing community volunteers into the planting process also creates a real sense of connection to the land.”
RVCA’s Shoreline Naturalization team will provide planting expertise and guidance throughout the event. Tree guards and biodegradable coir mats will help protect the young trees and give them the best possible start.
"More than a day of tree planting, this is a great opportunity to connect with neighbours, friends, and family outdoors and show up for the important green spaces we share," said Carolyn Schotmer, Executive Director of TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. “We’re pleased to be part of this event at Darou Farm and look forward to seeing volunteers come together.”

Community members are invited to join RVCA staff from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 19. No previous tree-planting experience is needed.
