Forestry Conservation Worker

RVCA is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario responsible for furthering the "conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in the watershed" under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are dedicated to protecting people and property from natural hazards like flooding and erosion, while conserving the wetlands, forests and natural areas that reduce their impacts. 

Summer Student, Full Time

April 27 to August 28, 2026

Work location: 3889 Rideau Valley Dr N

Work schedule is 35 hours a week, Monday through Friday

Hourly rate of $18.10

There is no public transportation to the worksite; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation prior to applying.

About the Job

You will be responsible for: 

  • Preparing and tending planting sites by mowing, watering, weeding and spraying herbicide. 
  • Packing trees for distribution; transporting equipment and trees to planting sites 
  • Hand-planting seedlings and potted stock 
  • Gathering and recording data for species at risk planting projects by measuring trees, pruning trees and conducting visual assessments of health. 
  • Assist with the Butternut Recovery Program, including forest inventories, health assessments and seed forecasting. 
  • Assisting Conservation Lands staff with invasive species, property maintenance and wildlife surveys. 
  • Performing general maintenance and repairs of equipment as needed. 
  • Please note:
    • The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
    • Travel to remote areas of the watershed may result in longer days. 

Who you are

As the preferred candidate you:

  • Are a post-secondary student or recent graduate in a forestry program or a related program. 
  • Have some experience hand-planting, spraying and tending seedlings. 
  • Don’t mind working in adverse weather conditions like heat and rain. 
  • Can navigate uneven/unstable terrain and lift 50 lbs. 
  • Must have a valid G2 or higher driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
