Engineering Assistant
RVCA is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario responsible for furthering the "conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in the watershed" under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are dedicated to protecting people and property from natural hazards like flooding and erosion, while conserving the wetlands, forests and natural areas that reduce their impacts.

Work schedule is 35 hours a week, Monday through Friday
Salary range of $64,782 to $77,469 annually

About the Job
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting senior professionals in providing engineering input and review of applications related to the Planning Act and s.28 of the Conservation Authorities Act.
- Applying sound science and engineering principles to assess complex situations, problem solve and generate solutions.
- Applying best practices in storm water management, erosion and sediment control.
- Assisting with special projects or studies including preparing terms of reference.
- Assisting with floodplain mapping studies and development of products.
- Assisting in conducting analysis for technical reviews, building and maintaining watershed models, flood forecasting and warning.
Who you are
As the preferred candidate you:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil or water resources engineering or equivalent.
- Have at least 2 years of practical experience in water resources.
- Are certified or eligible for certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
- Have strong academic training and understanding in the following areas: hydraulics, hydrology, numerical modeling, floodplain management, watershed management, flood forecasting and warning, stormwater and drainage, data analysis.
- Have knowledge in the application of theory and practices of water resource engineering and how this knowledge is applied to natural resource and water quantity management.
- Have knowledge of Conservation Authorities Act, Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Environmental Assessment Act, etc.
- Have experience with software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and project management tools to interpret and respond to real-time raw data streams, to evaluate data quality influences on model results and prepare a variety of materials to support policy and program development.
- Have knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic computer models, such as HEC-RAS and SWMHYMO, and understanding of GIS applications related to modeling.
- The ability to communicate with diverse stakeholder groups including the community, governments and agencies.
- Have oral/written communication (including technical report writing), presentation and consultative skills to provide expert engineering advice and report on assigned projects.
- Have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team on projects and studies.
- Have effective project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Have strong verbal and written communications skills in the English language.
- Have a valid G class driver’s license (or equivalent) and satisfactory driving record.
