Low Water? We’re on it!  Did you know that RVCA monitors low water conditions? Watershed condition statements are issued to keep municipalities and the public up to date on low water conditions. With changing weather patterns, low water levels are happening more often. The Rideau River Water Response Team, co-ordinated through the RVCA, is made up of member municipalities, selected government agencies and others. They review precipitation and streamflow information and, when needed, issue low water condition statements for the watershed. Effective February 18, 2020, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) is regulating the entire Goulbourn Provincially Significant Wetland (PSW) boundary as approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) in 2017. The RVCA will also be regulating 120 metres from the defined 2017 boundary, per Ontario Regulation 174/06.   Since 2006, the Province of Ontario has required Conservation Authorities to regulate development in wetlands and adjacent lands. The RVCA’s responsibilities in this regard are outlined in Ontario Regulation 174/06. Notice of Completion — Britannia Village Flood Control Project The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and the City of Ottawa are pleased to announce that this project has been completed in accordance with the Class Environmental Assessment for Remedial Flood and Erosion Control Projects, approved under the Environmental Assessment Act for projects of this type. All monitoring program commitments have been met for the approved projects. This project will protect parts of the Britannia Village community that would otherwise be affected by overbank flooding during future Ottawa River floods.
