This spring RVCA’s Stewardship Program will be hand planting more than 10,000 trees and shrubs along our waterways with the goal of improving water quality, reducing erosion and enhancing wildlife habitat.

What to Expect

Join us for a day! A small team of planters will be travelling throughout the watershed to remote locations to plant bareroot seedling and potted plants. We work on all types of property and terrain including cottage shorelines, farm fields, valley lands, forest understory, tall grass and steep slopes. Remote locations mean there is very limited access to amenities (bathrooms, food etc.). A typical work day begins at 7:30 a.m. This is a very physically demanding job, but we always try to have fun! This is a great opportunity for students looking to gain experience and build their resumes in the environmental field!

We will have various volunteer opportunities between April 23 and May 23. Let us know what dates you might be available, and we’ll be in touch as opportunities arise.

Be Prepared

  • You will need your own transportation to and from RVCA headquarters (3889 Rideau Valley Drive, Manotick).
  • You must be hard working and physically fit, able to be flexible with start/end times, able to traverse unstable ground and be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Read the Participant Guide.
  • You will need to provide your own warm and water-resistant clothing, sturdy work boots, your own lunch, snacks and beverages.
