Environmental Resource Technician

RVCA is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario responsible for furthering the "conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in the watershed" under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are dedicated to protecting people and property from natural hazards like flooding and erosion, while conserving the wetlands, forests and natural areas that reduce their impacts. 

About the Job

You will be responsible for:

  •  Implementing annual field sampling programs focused on environmental (water quality) monitoring. 
  • In accordance with established protocol, collecting and managing environmental (water quality) data and samples. 
  • Collecting, organizing and interpreting data to identify issues, influences and trends. 
  • Conducting quality assurance and quality control to verify data. 
  • Conducting field identification of various physical and biological features. 
  • Routinely preparing custom charts and graphs. 
  • Assisting with the coordination of field activities along with other coworkers and volunteers to meet work plan objectives. 
  • Fostering interest and community involvement in the program. 

 

Who you are

As the preferred candidate you:

  •  Hold a degree or diploma in environmental sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, earth sciences, water resources). 
  • Have one year relevant experience, including experience working with volunteers and community groups. 
  • Have knowledge of fluvial processes and best management practices for protection of water and land resources. 
  • Have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 
  • You have a valid Pleasure Craft Operator’s card. 
  • Are comfortable working on and around water, walking/hiking on even and/or unstable terrain and occasionally lifting heavy equipment and samples (weighing up to 50 lbs). 
  • Have experience operating non-motorized and motorized watercrafts. 
  • Have effective interpersonal skills and strong organizational and planning skills.

  •  Full time hours (35 hours per week) 
  • Hourly rate starting at $30.01 (2024 rates of pay)
