Environmental Technician (RVCA)

RVCA is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario responsible for furthering the "conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in the watershed" under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are dedicated to protecting people and property from natural hazards like flooding and erosion, while conserving the wetlands, forests and natural areas that reduce their impacts. 

April 28 to August 29, 2025

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Field work in remote areas of the watershed may result in longer days.
$17.70 per hour

Public transportation is limited; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation prior to applying.

About the Job 

You will be responsible for: 

  • Assisting with the organization and implementation of the septic re-inspection program for rural properties within the watershed. 
  • Assisting with conducting inspections of on-site wastewater systems
    • Field work can involve walking on uneven ground, working in adverse weather conditions, some lifting of equipment (up to 50lbs). 
    • Field work and inspection duties can involved travel to remote areas within the watershed. 
  • Data entry and file management. 
  • Responding to enquiries from the public. 

 Who you are 

As the preferred candidate you: 

  • Are a recent high school graduate or post-secondary student 
  • Are familiar with and interested in learning about water/wastewater treatment technologies. 
  • Can analyze data using standard software packages (such as Microsoft Excel and GIS) 
  • Can read and interpret technical plans and documents. 
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. 
  • Are as comfortable working in an office environment as you are in the field. 
  • Don’t mind working in adverse weather conditions like heat and rain and you are comfortable working on and around water. 
  • Hold a valid Class G2 or higher driver’s license and be able to provide an acceptable driving record. 

What we offer 

  • Full time hours (35 hours per week) from the beginning of April to the end of August 
  • Hourly rate of $17.70 
  • Option to join the OMERS pension plan 
  • Free onsite parking
