Planner

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is the lead inter-municipal agency working to address river-related environmental issues and concerns within the Rideau Valley watershed. Thanks to our many partners, the scope of our environmental protection work includes planning, source water protection, tackling flooding and erosion problems and researching water movement and use in the valley. We help people maintain healthy shorelines, provide advice on development-related issues and report to municipalities, agencies and the public about watershed conditions and trends. We also provide public access to natural waterfront areas, deliver community-based stewardship programs, reduce water pollution and protect fish and wildlife habitat.

Under general direction and within a multi-disciplinary team of environmental professionals, you will review and provide recommendations to municipal approval authorities on development applications under the Planning Act. This review is undertaken to ensure consistency with the applicable legislation and provincial and local policies for natural heritage, natural hazards, water resources and private servicing. You will also provide input on the review and/or development of new policy, land use strategies, master servicing studies, environmental management plans and similar planning initiatives. On a regular basis, you will review applications and conduct site inspections to identify environmental constraints and address site-specific development issues and recommend mitigation measures. You will review and process applications under Section 28 of the Conservation Authorities Act. You will provide advice, information and guidance to landowners and municipalities and assist landowners to come into compliance with issued approvals or authorizations. Under general direction and within a multi-disciplinary team of environmental professionals, you will review and provide recommendations to municipal approval authorities on development applications under the Planning Act. You have at least five years of experience in land use or environmental planning with a comprehensive understanding of the principles of planning and natural resource management. You also have a thorough knowledge of the Conservation Authorities Act, Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement and other relevant policies and regulations. Your understanding of earth sciences, municipal infrastructure, private servicing, ecology and surface and groundwater systems complements your demonstrated ability to interpret detailed and often complex policy, guidelines and applications. You must be able to navigate unstable terrain and possess a valid driver’s license with a relatively clean driving record. If you have a strong commitment to championing protection of the environment and the safeguarding of land and water resources, please send your resume and covering letter, no later than April 13, 2018.
