Forestry Program Manager

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is the lead intermunicipal agency working to address river-related environmental issues and concerns within the Rideau Valley watershed. Thanks to our many partners, the scope of our environmental protection work includes planning, source water protection, tackling flooding and erosion problems and researching water movement and use in the valley. We help people maintain healthy shorelines, provide advice on development-related issues and report to municipalities, agencies and the public about watershed conditions and trends. We also provide public access to natural waterfront areas, deliver community-based stewardship programs, reduce water pollution and protect fish and wildlife habitat.

Our offices are located in a suburban area just south of Ottawa where public transportation is limited. Candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation prior to applying.

Reporting to the Director of Conservation Lands and Stewardship, you will be responsible for managing reforestation and other forestry programs on private lands. You will assist the Director in managing forestry services on conservation authority lands and with other management agreements. To achieve objectives and effectively manage the program you will work closely with internal and external clients to secure funding, promote community involvement and develop related resources for reforestation programs. You will also be responsible for managing the forestry budget, managing the tendering process for contractors and site inspections. You will supervise the Forestry Technician directly and collaborate closely with other coworkers in the stewardship and conservation lands team.

As the ideal candidate you hold a college diploma or higher in Forestry. You have five years of relevant experience including some experience supervising staff. You have strong interpersonal skills, some knowledge of related legislation and experience implementing projects. You enjoy working outdoors and interacting with coworkers, contractors and the community.
