Monitoring Setup

The RVCA has two types of groundwater monitoring stations: manual and telemetry.

The manual stations collect water level data and store it in the memory bank of datalogger. This data has to be retrieved by visiting the individual monitors and downloading from the storage into the computer. This data is then sent to the Ministry of Environment’s Central Database Management System to be incorporated into the main database.

Telemetry monitors are fitted with a cellular data exchange setup and automatically upload the collected data into the Central Database Management System via cellular network at regular intervals.

Water levels from the PGMN stations are available in hourly, daily and monthly basis. Data is available both in tabular and graphic formats. Water levels are corrected for barometric pressure and temperature changes before being made available. All water levels are in metres above sea level. Graphs of water level fluctuations from various monitors are shown in WIS.

Each monitor is visited during March-October to collect a water sample. This sample is analysed for different water quality parameters. The water quality analysis conducted during March-October 2003 is available in the DATA section. Graphs along with some of the analysed parameters are shown in WIS.

Well Logs

Well logs for selected wells are available in WIS. These logs provide information on the geology of the PGMN wells. Borehole logs with corresponding geo-formations are shown in WIS.
