| This one-day, interactive workshop will target strategies for developing an effective Erosion and Sediment Control Plan that can actually be implemented on a construction site. Traditionally this industry has focused on the installation of devices such as silt fence and check dams; however, it’s time to move beyond the cookie cutter approach to a more dynamic and integrated process that addresses erosion control, sediment control and environmental awareness. The key strategy remains, "How does a professional designer create an ESC Plan that both respects the sensitivities of the surrounding environment and gets practically applied during all phases of the construction project?” The fundamental steps in designing an ESC Plan will follow the industry’s guidelines and integrate techniques that make the plan useable on a construction project.
Program Background
By following these steps and integrating the appropriate practices, course participants will have the opportunity to work on individual projects in groups and complete a plan unique for each group’s scenario. These plans will then be discussed and lessons learned will be highlighted along with cost comparisons for the various plans. If you design, inspect, install, or review ESC Plans; then this course is for you. This course has been organized through the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and generously sponsored by the Great Lakes Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA). Members of IECA will receive a $25.00 discount off the registration fee. To learn more about IECA, or to become a member, please visit their website. — Field work is not involved in this module — For further information, please contact Michelle Paton at the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority 613-692-3571, ext. 1177 To register for this event, please click here to go to the TRCA calendar page.
