Special Projects and Initiatives?

Through the donations of our members, partnerships and special fundraising events, the Friends of Foley Mountain support the following initiatives in partnership with the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority:

Environmental Education Programs : Each year, the Friends of Foley Mountain donates $10 000 to the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority in support of the outdoor environmental education program at Foley Mountain Conservation Area.

This education program reaches thousands of students each year and is helping to foster environmental awareness in our youth. The Friends also fund learning resources and equipment to meet the needs of an evolving range of programs.

Children's Nature Discovery Centre :   The Children's Nature Discovery Centre opened in the summer of 2008 to provide learning opportunities for visitors with hands-on nature-based activities. The centre is located in the ground floor of the Interpretive Centre.

Program Support: The Friends also pay for a portion of the salary for a summer student to assist in the delivery of the interpretive program and provide funding to rent live reptiles and amphibians for the terrariums in the Children's Discovery Centre.

Mobility Trail: This newly constructed trail allows access for people of all physical abilities to enjoy the beauty of Foley Mountain.

This low-grade, 955-foot crushed stone trail is accessible to people in wheelchairs, using walkers, pushing strollers and people of all abilities. The trail winds through a mature hardwood forest overlooking the Upper Rideau Lake.

Family Summer Programs: On Thursday mornings from 10:00 am to 11:30 am in July and August the Friends of Foley Mountain and Rideau Valley Conservation Authority offer nature programming for families.   Programs will include a variety of nature themes. Programs are free with purchase of a Rideau Valley Conservation Authority Day Use Permit or Annual Pass.

Concert Series:   Local musicians perform in the intimate setting of the Interpretive Centre.   Past concerts have included singer songwriter Terry Tufts, Juno award winning Jenny Whitely, and The Laws.   Check our Upcoming Events Section for future concert dates and information.
