Outdoor Environmental Education Programs
The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority has been has been delivering a curriculum-based, experiential outdoor education program at Foley Mountain for over 25 years! Students are encouraged to participate in hands-on activities including pond and forest explorations, simulation games, and scientific investigations.
Being so actively involved in learning about the environment will help them form an understanding of the natural world and how they are connected to it. Some of the most popular programs include "Beaver Pond Bonanza", "A Bug's Life", "Instincts for Survival", "Geology Rocks", and "Orienteering". Over 5,000 school children visit Foley Mountain each year. These programs are also available to community-based youth groups.
The Friends support Foley Mountain's education program by providing funding for an education intern and purchasing specialized equipment.
The support of the Friends has also enabled the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority to offer a full summer schedule of Family Programs. Stay posted for our 2010 Summer Schedule, e-mail rebecca.whitman@rvca.ca, or call Foley Mountain Conservation Area at 613-273-3255 for more details.
