Foley Mountain Conservation Area |

Foley Mountain Conservation Area is located high atop a granite ridge overlooking the Upper Rideau lake and picturesque village of Westport, 50 km south of Perth. It is owned and operated by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.
The Conservation Area consists of 325 hectares (800 acres) of mixed forests, ponds, and fields. The five hiking trails, group camp area, scenic Spy Rock lookout, and picnic areas set the stage for a quality outdoor education experience. |

Highlights at Foley Mountain Foley Mountain
- Open daily, year round.
- Enjoy the view of the village of Westport and beyond from the scenic Spy Rock lookout.
- A Walk in the Woods – Foley Mountain offers eight marked trails of varying length and difficulty that meander through the rocky slopes and scenic forests. These trails include a section of the Rideau Trail and a trail designed to be accessible for people with limited mobility.
- Picnic in the Park – Enjoy one of several picnic areas and benches throughout the park including a natural swimming area on the Upper Rideau Lake.
- During July and August, visit the Interpretive Centre when it is open most Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Check out the Children’s Nature Discovery Centre, get information about the surrounding area, or speak with park staff. Join in the family nature program series most Thursday and Saturday mornings from 10:00 am to 11:30 pm.
- Outdoor Environmental Education – Schools and groups can participate in hands-on curriculum-based programs that will help participants understand our natural world and their relationship with it. Click here for more information and to request a booking.
- Facility Rentals – The Interpretive Centre and picnic shelter is available to rent for your group event and a group campground can be reserved by organized youth groups. Click here for availability and rates.
- 70 to 100 White-tailed deer winter in the conservation area - a great place to see them in their natural habitat.
- Also to be seen are black and red squirrels, snowshoe hares and cottontail rabbits, porcupines, chipmunks and occasionally fisher, pine martens, bobcats, weasels.
- There are 38 species of trees, including lofty pines and impressive white oaks.

Outdoor Environmental Education at Foley Mountain

The outdoor environmental education program at Foley Mountain provides students with interactive, experiential, curriculum-based experiences that will help them to understand our natural world and their relationship with it.
Let Foley Mountain's Education Programs (click here for our Education Flyer) help you teach the Ontario science curriculum from junior kindergarten all the way through high school. Programs range from Beaver Pond Bonanzas to Orienteering to Snowshoeing and everything in between! The program can accommodate up to 60 students per day and all equipment is provided. All programs are approximately 1.5 hours in duration.
Cost
Programs:
- $4 per student per half day program (minimum charge of $75)
- $7 per student per full day program (minimum charge of $150)
- Camping (programming not included):
$5 per night per student ($50 per night minimum)

Interpretive Programs

Foley Mountain Conservation Area offers various public interpretive programs throughout the year:
- Family Nature Programs – offered most Thursdays and Saturdays in July and August from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. 2009 Schedule coming soon.
- Children’s Nature Discovery Centre and Interpretive Displays available at the Foley Mountain Interpretive Centre most Saturdays and Sundays in July and August from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Friends of Foley Mountain
The Friends of Foley Mountain is a non-profit charitable organization which was established in 1996 by a group of Westport area residents. The Friends' mission is to preserve and maintain Foley Mountain Conservation Area in its natural state for the enjoyment and education of present and future generations. Foley Mountain needs friends to continue to support its exciting programs.
