  Conservation Areas   Welcome to Baxter — 68 hectares of outdoor fun! Follow over five kilometres of trails through wetlands, conifer plantations, mixed forest, alder thickets, nut groves and a solar energy display. The trails are perfect for hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Enjoy a peaceful view of the scenic Rideau River from the trail or splash and play at the sandy beach.

Baxter has a pay machine where you can buy your day pass ($6/vehicle) or annual pass ($45 unlimited access all year).You will find the pay machine as you enter the park. Please pay before using the site. The machine accepts coins and credit cards only (no bills or debt cards). The machine will print your pass which you need to display on the dashboard of your car.

If you purchase an annual pass at the machine, go to Baxter’s Interpretive Centre (Monday to Friday; 8:30 am to 4:30 pm) or visit our main office (3889 Rideau Valley Drive, Manotick, ON) to pick up your annual pass card. You will need to present the printed pass from the pay machine to obtain the annual pass card.

School Programs — Where fun, adventure and learning come naturally

Baxter Naturalist, Andrea Wood offers a variety of outdoor education programs. JK to senior classes are welcome. Start off at the McManus Education Centre for instructions and then move outdoors for hands on experience in Mother Nature's Wonderland. Each season offers its own special programs. New boardwalks help you over the wet spots.

Cost:

  • $150 per class (maximum 30 students) for one program
  • $225 per class (maximum 30 students) for two program

  Summer Day Camp

Kids bored? Spending too much time inside? Need some outdoor excitement? Get up and go to the Baxter Conservation Area's Day Camp. Lots of fun for kids 6 to 12 years old — games, hikes, crafts, swimming, overnights and more. Andrea Wood, Baxter Naturalist, hosts this special fun camp.
 
  Canoe Camp

For 10 to 14-year olds looking for a challenge, try the Canoe Camp! Over five days, campers will learn and improve tandem canoe strokes, safety skills, and overnight camping practices.

Outdoor Adventure Camp

July 29 to August 2, 2013


$235/week

Try our new camp (for campers 10 to 14 years) which takes the outdoors, adventure, sports and summer recreation to a whole new level.  Join us for an action packed week in your local conservation area enjoying all the outdoor facilities have to offer, such as: canoeing, hiking,  orienteering, wilderness survival and even learn how we were naturally meant to run.  This camp is great for everyone from active athlete to conservationist.  If you like the outdoors, you will love this camp.
